Yew Tree
Yew is a protected tree that was typically planted in Grave yards to keep out grazing animals. The Yew I use is salvaged from the veneer company that used to cut yew before the tree was protected by the E.U.
Yew is extremely rare and precious as it is not grown commercially. It is only available from trees that have fallen due to some natural disaster. It has many mythological aspects and medicinal properties. Yew is very rare and unpopular because of its many defects or irregularities and typically most yew wood is wasted due to this. I specialise in the irregularities of English Yew Tree. I am able to make the most of the material by creating work that has longevity that the wood deserves.
