ARTIST STATEMENT
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE MAY 2018 : - I was trained as a painter and painting is still my primary area of focus. From painting though, I have discovered other disciplines, including; sculpture, photography, video/film, and digital art. I also continue to experiment, in an attempt to further expand my ideas and formal output. Land art, installation work and ephemeral artistic practices are also of interest to me.
From my earliest artworks, I have always been interested in ‘place’. My surroundings almost always inform my creative process and present opportunities for me to react to or be inspired by the place I am in.
My creative practice is process based. I often will be inspired by something I see in the real world. I then explore my interests through making. One move in the studio leads to another, and very soon I have set the parameters for my investigation. Once started, this process can be straightforward, or can morph into additional projects. |
