Neighborhood overview - Fourni Village, Neapolis Town, Mirabello Bay, Plaka Beach.
On The Land
Event Horizon is set in 5 acres of private land (owned by Julienne) and is close to the sea. The land is primarily an olive grove at the beginning of the Havgas gorge. There is a gigantic Mediterranean Oak spread so broadly that it becomes a tree house. There are plenty of places to walk and muse on the land. It is effectively a nature reserve and so there are no crazing animals allowed resulting in a plethora of Cretan Fauna visible all year round. The wild flowers and wildlife are to be respected and not collected in any way. Julienne plans to build land art sculptures and is open to collaborations with other artists.
Accommodation in Fourni
Fourni is the nearest village 2 k from Event Horizon, a two minute drive or a 20 minute walk. Fourni is a very diverse place due to the community of artists and shepherds. There are three 'kafeneon' tavernas with excellent food where the Cretan locals hang out.
Food shopping is possible with the local farmers who pass through with a variety of fruit and vegetables loaded on the back of pick-up trucks. Neapolis town is an 8k drive. Cooked meals can be delivered by neighbours Nikos and Xristina.
There are many beaches within 15 minutes drive. The village and beach Plaka and the island of Spinalonga are great places to visit. Another village Elounda is just along the coast from Plaka where one can cross over the sea causeway to rocky private coves and family beaches. In the direction of Vlichadia there are many wild beaches where one can be alone. Swimming with turtles and shoals of fish make excellent company for the nature seekers. There are many hiking trails and gorges to explore and aslo many places of interest including Areti Monastery and Agios Gianni settlement.
